Make time for yourself right now! x

Today I want to talk about self-love. I want to talk about what we could potentially be doing and what we should be avoiding when it comes to self love.

When you look at the all chaos and uncertainty going on in the world, often what you see externally is mirrored in your internal world. So that’s why it’s vitally important to look after yourself and give yourself some TLC. After all you deserve it.

Self-love is something that we simply don’t do enough of, so here some of my ideas for looking after numero uno

Silence social media

Have a break from social media, silence your notifications, don’t read the newspaper, don’t look at the news channels. Just make that a part of your self love practice. I’m just as guilty of having a cheeky little news surf and before I know it am down a very long and winding rabbit hole of stuff I don’t want in my life. Turning off notifications is so easy on your phone, so have a go. The world won’t stop if you’re not on Insta 24/7 365!


That’s right, “Dance like no one is watching“, as the saying goes. Put some music on, throw some shapes or just sway along to the beat. There is no right or wrong way to do it, just do what feels right for you. Keeps you supple too!This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is dancer.jpg

Get enough sleep

Sleep is one of the most important things for our bodies. Our modern lives are so busy, we sometimes consider something as simple as sleeping hard to do. So make a ritual at bedtime. Start with a favourite non-caffeinated drink – if you survive on caffeine try to have your last cup a few hours before bedtime. I’m experimenting with two tea bags in the same cup currently peppermint and chamomile (fab combo). Don’t eat a big meal before bed – in fact your main meal in the evening should be no later than 7pm – but that’s not set in stone, so a cheeky piece of toast might help you through the night! Take a bath or a shower with relaxing essential oil such as lavender. Use some pillow mist. Make sure your bed is comfy. Read a book, a tangible analogue book (DO NOT TINKER AROUND OR READ ON THE IPAD OR YOUR PHONE IN BED). Make lerve with your partner and then allow yourself to drift off into a good night’s sleep.

Scales are for fish!

Don’t punish yourself with diets. We shouldn’t be stressing our bodies out and messing up our metabolism with endless yo yo dieting. Instead learn to listen to your body. Only you can hear what your body is asking for. Don’t let outside influences – the clock, the scales, friends, family, or a diet club, dictate to you and your body. Don’t panic that you’ll go wild and binge if you don’t control things because that just isn’t the case at all.

Never forget, dieting is a multi-billion dollar industry for a reason…diets don’t work and you are repeat business!

i am enough

Start each day with positive affirmations. And whilst it might seem a bit weird to tell yourself (or affirm) that you are quite frankly amazeballs, there is actually science behind using these powerful little phrases and statements. In a nutshell they become embedded in your subconscious and along the way begin to rewrite your narrative. There is a caveat to this though; in order for them to work you do need to say them regularly and that’s where the morning affirmations come in. You can do this in the shower or when you’re getting ready for work. The beauty of positive affirmations is that you can say them anywhere. Here are some to start you off;

I am enough.
I choose to be happy.
I am safe and secure.
I am healthy.
I choose to ditch negative thoughts.
I am the boss of me.
I accept and love myself right now, the way I am.
As I say yes to life, life says yes to me.
I prosper wherever I turn.
I make a difference to the world.
I am beautiful and everyone loves me.

attitude of gratitude

Much like the positive affirmations, take time of an evening before you settle down to sleep to say what you’ve grateful for. I use my 4, 2, 1 method in my journal or just in my head, which is simply 4 things I am grateful for that day. I then say two things that I am either looking forward to, or intending to happen the way I want them to, the following day. Finally, I send my love to someone that I believe needs a little boost.

Remember “No one is you, and that’s your super power!”
